New Bakery in Orlando: Rye Row by Olde Hearth Soft Opens in Orlando’s Ivanhoe Village

by Ricky Ly

Rye Row by Olde Hearth, the new retail bakeshop from Olde Hearth Bread Company, is now soft open at 1231 N. Orange Ave. in Orlando’s Ivanhoe Village, giving locals a new place to pick up the bakery’s breads, croissants, pastries and other baked goods directly from the source.

The shop comes from husband-and-wife owners Shannon and Janice Talty, who founded Olde Hearth Bread Company in 1998. Rye Row changes that by giving the bakery a dedicated neighborhood storefront where customers can walk in and buy directly from the bakery.May be a graphic of text

What to Expect at Rye Row

During the soft opening, expect a rotating selection rather than a fixed full menu as the team settles into the new space. Early offerings have included fresh sourdough loaves, croissants, Danish pastries, cookies, granola and other baked goods, with coffee also available.

Olde Hearth is known for breads and pastries made with a focus on traditional artisan techniques. The bakery says it uses unbleached and unbromated flours, preservative-free ingredients and minimal automation in its baking process.

Owner Shannon Talty’s background goes deep into American artisan breadmaking. A Culinary Institute of America graduate, Talty worked at Jeremiah Tower’s influential Stars restaurant in San Francisco before turning his attention to bread and training at the acclaimed Acme Bread Company in the Bay Area. He eventually returned to Florida and opened Olde Hearth.

The bakery previously operated a stall at East End Market before closing it in 2021 to concentrate on wholesale operations. Earlier this year, Shannon and Janice Talty announced plans to return to retail with the Ivanhoe Village shop.

Olde Hearth Bread Company remains the company’s artisan bakery and wholesale operation supplying breads, rolls and baked goods to restaurants and markets around Central Florida, while Rye Row by Olde Hearth is the new public-facing bakeshop in Ivanhoe Village.

The new bakery joins the growing collection of independent restaurants, shops and businesses along North Orange Avenue in Ivanhoe Village, just north of Downtown Orlando.

Rye Row is still in its soft-opening phase, so hours and inventory may fluctuate while the bakery team works out its routine. The owners say they are currently aiming for approximately 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., but customers should check the bakery’s social media before making a special trip.
