Chip and Joanna Gaines Tackle Their ‘Most Ambitious’ Renovation With a Texas Mansion in the Newest ‘Fixer Upper’ Spinoff
Chip and Joanna Gaines have a major new project up their sleeves.
The HGTV stars are set to tackle yet another renovation in a brand-new series, “Fixer Upper: Chip Bought a Mansion,” coming in December.
The six-episode series will follow the couple’s journey as they embark on a three-month project to transform a 15,000-square-foot estate Chip bought in their hometown of Waco, TX, three years ago.
In a classic twist of reality TV luck, the Gaineses soon discover that the property needs much more work than they had originally anticipated.
“Chip has always been a dreamer and risk taker, but even for him, buying a mansion was a bold move,” Joanna remarked in a statement shared with Realtor.com®.

“What started as a surprise quickly turned into one of our most ambitious and unique renovations to date,” she continued.
The mom of five admitted the renovation “challenged” the duo creatively, pulling them outside of their “comfort zones” with budget constraints and other setbacks that come with the territory of updating such a sizable property.
Still, she was able to find a silver lining.
“My favorite part was that Chip and I really got to work side by side in order to get this massive house across the finish line and on the market,” Joanna said.
In the trailer for the series, Chip is up to his signature hijinks, rocking a cowboy hat and posing between two flailing inflatable tube people to ask viewers, “Have you ever thought, ‘Boy! I wish I had a house with more house!' Well, then saddle up folks, we bought a mansion!”

Joanna quickly corrects Chip to confirm that there wasn’t much “we” in the transaction, as it was totally his doing—a decision he says he’s “regretting.”
The brick palace sits on a 5.7-acre lot boasting striking views of Lake Waco.
According to the property’s listing, which is currently held by Amanda Nesbitt of Magnolia Realty, the six-bedroom, 8.5-bathroom home “will be thoughtfully reimagined to reveal a timeless, more neutral-leaning palette for a future owner.”
A beautifully lit two-story foyer sets the tone as guests enter the space, leading way to an enormous living room. Columns, chandeliers, and ornate wrought-iron details are found throughout the home.
Chip and Joanna certainly had their hands full, as the dwelling’s amenities include a den, private study, billiard room, gym with a steam shower, media room, butler’s pantry, wet bar, and wine cellar.

The primary suite is situated on the ground floor for privacy, and it includes not one, but two bathrooms, multiple closets, and access to the courtyard.
There’s also a guest suite with a private entrance, bathroom, living area, and kitchenette.
The outdoor living spaces are just as luxurious and include multiple covered porches. An outdoor kitchen is perfect for hosting events, as is the infinity-edge pool and idyllic pond.
Parking is ample with four garage bays and a motor court.
While the listing’s photos keep the planned renovations under wraps, the description hints at what’s to come.

“As part of the Fixer Upper renovations, the home’s architectural details, such as intricate trim, moldings, and millwork will be preserved and elevated in order for their craftsmanship to shine,” it reads.
“The kitchen will be reconfigured as the central heart of the space, inviting gathering and entertaining while bringing ease to everyday life,” the listing continues. “Additional design refinements throughout the home will set an elegant, renewed vision for all that Hakesdene Estate will become.”
Luckily, “Fixer Upper” fans won’t have too much longer to wait before Chip and Joanna’s most ambitious project is revealed. The series premieres with back-to-back episodes on Magnolia Network and HGTV on Dec. 27.
“What makes this project so entertaining is that it begins with a big idea that only Chip could dream up,” Allison Page, president of Magnolia Network, shared.
“As the renovation unfolds, viewers will experience every twist and turn alongside Chip and Joanna while watching them navigate anything they’ve tackled before,” Page continued. “It’s unpredictable, fun, and a compelling next chapter in the ‘Fixer Upper’ story.”
